Fragrance Oil Usage Guide
How to Apply Fragrance Oil
Fragrance oils perform best when applied directly to pulse points — areas where the skin is warm and blood vessels are close to the surface. Target these spots for maximum scent throw:
- Inner wrists
- Base of the throat / neck
- Behind the ears
- Inside the elbows
- Behind the knees
- Décolletage / chest
Apply a small amount — a little goes a long way. Gently press (don't rub) the oil into the skin so the top notes are preserved.
Damp vs. Dry Skin
For the longest wear, apply fragrance oil to slightly damp skin — right after a shower while you still have a light layer of moisture. The water acts as a carrier and helps lock the scent in. If your skin is completely dry, applying an unscented moisturizer first works just as well to create that same base.
Layering with Matching Body Sprays
Pair your fragrance oil with the matching body spray to build depth and extend longevity:
- Moisturize – Apply lotion or body butter as your base.
- Body spray first – Mist the spray 6–8 inches from the body to lightly coat skin and hair.
- Fragrance oil last – Dab oil onto pulse points to anchor the scent and add richness.
This layered approach creates a full-body scent experience that lasts significantly longer than either product used alone.
How Scent Evolves on Your Skin
Fragrance is a journey — not just a single note. Here's what to expect after you apply:
- Top notes (0–30 min): The first impression — usually fresh, citrus, or light floral. These fade quickly.
- Heart / middle notes (30 min–2 hrs): The true character of the fragrance emerges — florals, spice, or warmth.
- Base notes (2+ hrs): The long-lasting foundation — musk, wood, amber, or vanilla — that lingers closest to your skin.
Your skin chemistry, diet, and environment can all influence how a scent smells on you versus in the bottle. This is completely normal — it's part of what makes fragrance personal.
Patch Testing (Especially for New Users)
If you're new to fragrance oils or have sensitive skin, a quick patch test is always recommended:
- Apply a small amount of oil to the inside of your elbow or wrist.
- Wait 24 hours before applying to larger areas.
- If any redness, itching, or irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.
Our oils are formulated for skin use, but individual sensitivities vary. When in doubt, test first.
Storage Tips
Proper storage protects your investment and keeps your fragrance smelling its best:
- Away from light: UV exposure breaks down fragrance compounds. Store in a drawer, cabinet, or box — not on a sunny vanity.
- Away from heat: High temperatures alter the scent profile. Avoid storing near radiators, windowsills, or in the bathroom if it gets very steamy.
- Upright and capped: Always keep the cap tightly closed to prevent oxidation and evaporation.
- Cool, dark place: A bedroom dresser or closet shelf is ideal.
With proper storage, your fragrance oils can maintain their quality for 1–2 years or more.
Choosing the Right Scent for You
Not sure where to start? Here are a few quick pointers:
- Prefer light & fresh? Look for notes like citrus, aquatic, green, or sheer florals.
- Love warmth & depth? Reach for amber, vanilla, musk, or wood-based blends.
- Into florals? Rose, jasmine, and cherry blossom profiles offer everything from delicate to bold.
- Undecided? Start with a versatile, crowd-pleasing musk or clean scent — they layer well with almost everything.
